Press Release: CH&FR Takes Delivery of WM 761

For Immediate Release
Dateline 15 March 2010

The Chestnut Hill & Frost River Railroad, in conjunction with the Chestnut Hill Historical Preservation Society, would like to announce the acquisition and delivery of Western Maryland #761, a previously retired Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive.

WM 761 was painstakingly restored to full operation by the Frost River Locomotive Works, with the consultation of the CHHiPS, the Western Maryland Railway Historical Society, and the Union Pacific Steam Shop. Initial run tests indicate WP 761 is able to reach a top speed of 86mph while pulling a short freight load.

After completing shakedown tests, WP 761 will be placed into service by the CHHiPS running its weekly excursion trains.

Additional information and videos of WP 761’s maiden runs on CH&FR rails will be posted later.

WM 761 exits the Watash Creek Tunnel on its inaugural run to Frost River.
